An employee quickly went to assist another person and tripped and fell while stepping down off of a sidewalk onto another ground/walking surface.
Factors to consider in preventing a similar incident at your site include the following:
- Slips, Trips, and falls represent a large majority of events in the workplace. They can occur on even, uneven, indoor, and outdoor walking surfaces. Take caution and make note of any potentially unsafe conditions and notify your Supervision.
- Remember to slow down when walking to avoid a fast pace. Always keep eyes on the walking path. When stepping or walking it is critical to keep your eyes on your path and upcoming surroundings. Walking or moving before looking can lead to slips, trips, falls, and collisions.
Supervisors should review for themselves and their employees that lines out the expectations and protocol for emergency and non-emergency situations where the Owner Contact / Responsible Host and the local Contractor HSE Advisor are both notified immediately about any events that occur.
Consider this example as you complete today’s work activities.
Think about the hazards associated with your particular work, and the steps that can be taken to increase safety on your job.
