Seatbelt Causes Injury

An employee was at a gas station in order to fill up the diesel fuel tank in the back of a job truck. Once out of the truck, they used their left hand to push the truck door shut.  At that time they realized their radio was caught on the seat-belt of the truck.  They instinctively used their right hand to free the seat-belt from the radio.  When they did, the door shut and latched on their hand.

Factors to consider at your site or on your project include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Remove bulky, loose material that may interfere with a seat-belt before traveling.
  2. Do not put body parts in the line of fire of moving parts.
  3. Try to avoid complacency in day to day operations.  Think before you react.
