A contractor employee was installing a wind
screen around a machine. The contractor had been working from a scaffold
prior to break. Upon returning from break, the contractor employee was reaching
for the drill located on the scaffold from the ground level. The trigger of the
drill struck the toe board of the scaffold and was engaged. The individual’s
glove was grabbed, pulling his right little finger into the drill bit.
Factors to consider at your site or on your project include, but are not
limited to, the following:
1. Task planning should capture all hazards
employees could encounter
2. Do not reach for tools and equipment where
you cannot see physical obstructions
3. Communicate learning points to all craft
personnel on the site that could encounter similar situations
