Arm Laceration - Rebar

An ironworker sustained a laceration on the inside of his elbow from a piece of installed rebar.  The employee was tying the bottom bar inside a beam pocket.  As he removed his arm from the beam, it came in contact with a stirrup (rebar).  The angle at which the bent stirrup end was facing, caused the rebar to lacerate the employee’s arm, inside of his elbow.

Factors to consider at your site or on your project include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Wear long sleeves or Kevlar sleeves and keep them "in-place"
  2. Minimize skin exposure while working around sharp objects
  3. Stay focused on task
