Back Injury

An employee was tasked with painting piping and conduit located overhead.  To access the overhead piping and conduit, the worker used a 4’ step ladder to reach the work area.  During the work he came to a suspended catch pan below the mezzanine (approx. 3’x3’).  As he reached over the pan to paint he felt a pop in his lower back.

Factors to consider at your site and/or project include, but not limited to the following:

1.    Pay particular attention to your surroundings when working in tight areas.

2.    Discuss/review what can be moved or taken down to make the job easier.   In this particular situation the drip pan could have been removed to not make the employee bend and work around it.

Consider this example as you complete today’s work activities.
